Our Wedding Day

From Cody and Kelly
On our wedding day.
We have known each other from our first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment today. Early on, without reservation, we wholeheartedly made decisions as though we knew we would spend the rest of our lives together.

From each escalating moment of yes – to this moment of yes today, indeed, we have been making promises and agreements in an informal and somewhat idiosyncratic way.

All the conversations we held while riding in the car, sitting by the pool, evenings on the deck, over a meal or on long walks - all the sentences that began with “When we’re married” and continued with “I will, and we will” and those late night talks that included “someday” and “maybe” - and all those promises that are simply unspoken matters of the heart.

As we weaved our futures together by our actions we stepped with faith unsaid and promises assumed. All these everyday things, and so much more,
have been the real process of our wedding.

The vows that we are about to make are a formal way of saying to one another - and to our families - “You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed - well, I meant it all, every word.”

We will always remember this moment in time. Before today we have been many things to one another- acquaintance, friend, co-worker, companion, co-parent, and even teacher, as we have learned much together. For each other, we have been
the door that opened,
the calm after the storm,
the healing kiss.

Soon we shall say a few words that will take us across another threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between us. For after these vows, we shall say to the world,
this is my husband, this is my wife.

We thank you for sharing today with us.
