James on the election process

On the way to school James asked
if he could have an Obama sign
for our front yard.

Noelle promptly said that
Cody would want a bigger McCain sign.

James then asked

"Are Obama and McCain fighting?"

"Not really, but they are each trying to win a contest."

"If it's just a contest

why do they say
things that are mean about each other."

"They really want to win.
They need to convince people

they are the best candidate".

"I don't get it."

"Imagine you and Logan both want
to be in charge of the classroom.
Your classmates pick who they want as leader.
You need to talk to your classmates
and try to convince them to vote for you."

James was quite for awhile.

"So McCain and Obama want to be the leaders of all of America
and all of America gets to vote?"

"yes..."

To which James said,

"Oh my gosh!

Who is going to count all their raised hands?"
