Now and Then

Every so often I'll stumble upon something
so well written and captivating
I wonder why I don't take more time to read.

The appreciation is fresh and new,
the way we desire
the first sunny green days of spring.

Every so often a vacation to a foreign place...
a break from the daily habits
makes you realize some of your
assumptions may be false
and some of the rules you live by
can change.

It's a flash of keen awareness
like the moment you see the same path differently
when you are on your bike
rather than in your car.

Every so often someone you love
undergoes minor surgery
and you are thankful
there aren't more major surgeries in your life.

Once in awhile
you realize
you need the every so often
more often.

Paul and Grandma

Doesn't Paul look
like he just senses
how cute Grandma finds him?

Borrowed Virginia and Jon's kids...

We borrowed our friends' kids
for the day yesterday.
They were unpacking their new house.
We thought we could help
by wearing their kids out a little.

She sent this picture of their car ride home (at 5pm).
Mission accomplished.

Our last day in Italy

For our last day in Venice, we boarded a water bus and toured the islands of Murano, Burano, and Giudecca. Burano, a quaint island with multi-colored houses, was by far our favorite. The houses were painted bright colors by the people who lived in them so that when the men returned from their fishing trip their home could be easily identified.

After a long day, there's nothing better than drinking some vino straight from the carboy.

Dinner and Vivaldi

Tonight we decided to take in dinner and a Vivaldi concert. Apparently when one orders fresh fish in Venice, it doesn't look much different from when it left the sea.

We were joined by an accordion player.

After the show, there was more music playing on St. Mark's Square.
